Memory is a process in which information is encoded, stored and retrieved. That is, memory is the sum of everything that the human brain stores. But what do we save? Pleasant memories of the best moments of life? Or on the contrary, the most painful and cruel moments that we had to experience? Which memories do we block and which do we want to experience again?
When studying memory, one should not forget about collective memory – memories that will forever remain with a group of people or an entire nation.
When should we “decode” and “extract” our own memories, and when should we turn to collective memory and rethink our shared past for the sake of the future?
The full-scale war in Ukraine gives impetus to work both with one’s own life experience and an attempt to grasp the collective memory for self-reflection and the opportunity to change events in the future. So it’s time to hear and see the artists, their memories and look into the “collective memory” for the vision of the future, both our own and humanity as a whole.
